Studio 1 for me this week had a pretty rough start. I found out at 11PM Sunday night that one of our group members had dropped out of SAE and taken contact with the artist for our project with them.
The fact that we lost a group member wasn’t the biggest issue for this week. It was the face that he had taken our contact with the artist with him, therefore leaving us with a project pitch that was almost useless. We had initially built our project around the particular contacts that this member had, which made it hard for us to take the pre-existing pitch forward.
So, instead of trying to change the pitch in a way that made it easier for us to complete we decided to scrap the entire pitch and begin again from scratch.
Project One V2
Using the same template as our first project pitch, we began designing Project One V2. Ash (Ashlea Saron) started contacting the Animation Student that was organised for the artwork for our first project and asked him if he had any other projects that he (Matt) was working on. Matt got back to Ash with a concept that he had been working on since Trimester One: Tel.

Tel is a character that Matt had created that would eventually star in an animation of his. Tel's main concept is that he is a character who has recently died and is now going through the stages and emotions of grief. Tel has found a home in an unsuspecting human's mind and is now controlling the way the feel and perceive the outside world.
Almost immediately both myself and Ash were invested in Tel's narrative and offered to create a 3-6 minute soundtrack that fits both to Tel's background and a potential animation short. This soundtrack would be a progressive soundscape that focuses more on actual sounds than any spoken words. There will be a few different sections of the track, each being a different stage of grief that transition between each other as Tel and his host feel them.
In order to create this track we will be using the MIDI studio on campus along with either the 1.2 or 2.7 computer lab. We will be creating synths unique to this track along with sampling things like drums and ambient noise from crowded and public places.
We aren’t yet completely sure of the LO’s that this project will be able to tick off asides from working with an interdisciplinary student. On Thursday (27/09/18) during break we plan to further go over the project to work out other LO’s that we can tick off.
Studio 1 This Week
This week we pitched our first projects and will do our first intensive 6-hour lecture on Thursday. I felt like our pitch went alright considering we had to gather and plan it that morning. I felt like our ideas were pretty solid and that our project was pretty cool and unique. I’m looking forward to our big lecture on Thursday as we will be working on track tear downs and learning how to properly utilise the NEVE console. I still haven’t completed my Copyright blog yet as I had to dedicate the time I planned on doing it to redesigning our project pitch. If I don’t complete it this week I’ll have to use some of my free time to do it next week as I don’t want to leave it this blog for any later in the Trimester.
