(17/09/18 - 21/09/18)

As a third Trimester Audio student, I have just begun my first big module at SAE; Studio 1. This new class has replaced three out of four slots on my timetable and carries a workload triple the size of any modules I have previously studied.

During the module we will be assessed against a Baseline Assessment consisting of around 27 Learning Outcomes (LO's). This Trimester, our facilitator's have decided that in order to successfully meet all of these LO's we should complete two main projects and 1 smaller side project. As of this week we have been split into groups and begun planning for our first project.

Project One

For this project, we were allowed to form groups of up to 3 members. Once we had formed our group we begun brainstorming ideas for the project. Firstly, we decided that this project would be focused around recording and producing a song. We then decided that the genre of the song would be a West Coast, 90's Hip-Hop inspired track. This is because this genre has always been very relevant within the music scene and hasn’t lost its trend.

We then went through the LO's and began to plan which of them we may be able to tick off during the completion of this project. One of the LO's we specifically focused on was CLO06. This LO requires us to engage in interdisciplinary practice. We decided that to meet this criteria we would work with an animation/design student in order to create some art for our track. Once we had gotten a rough idea of what we could get ticked off we discussed each of our individual strengths and weaknesses. We did this so it made it easier to delegate which roles went to which member of our group, while simultaneously allowing us the opportunity to volunteer for roles we weren't as comfortable in to help us improve.

The last things we discussed as a group this week were which artist we would use as the vocalist for our project and the draft for our project pitch. As of today (Tuesday, 18/09) we have not finalized an artist for our track but we have listened to a few and have begun to get in contact with one in particular. We have also laid the base down for our project pitch, which follows the draft document that we received in class. We plan on meeting as a group this Thursday (20/09) and discussing the final aspects of our draft and finalizing our artist.

Overall Opinion of Studio 1 So Far

So far I feel like I will enjoy the Studio 1 module. I'm currently feeling pretty confident in my time management skills for this Trimester and I am feeling pretty confident in most of my ideas and abilities related to our first project. Having said that, something I feel I would like to improve on this Trimester is my mixing skills and my confidence when operating the desk. I know I have the ability to successfully operate and utilize the desks on campus as long as I stop over complicating things that are usually very straight forward.

What I Plan on Working On Next Week

Next week I am aiming to not only have my Week 2 blog ready to be published but to also research and complete a blog in relation to assessing copyright and intellectual property implications of creative work (AUD210LO7).
